Mr. Obama, tear down this wall! (AKA Mr. Brown goes to Washington)

President Barack Obama is a liar. He has done the very opposite of what he promised during his Presidential campaign. He promised an open, honest government and then brought in hundreds of political hacks and radicals operating behind closed doors and devising legislation hidden from public view. Barack Obama has erected his own Berlin Wall of secrecy to hide old-style Chicago Machine politics in which followers get paid off and the taxpayers get screwed. Is that clear enough? How many criminal czars does one man need? Barack Obama is not particularly intelligent or accomplished.

Barack Obama is a disappointment. The only good thing about Obama's election was that all people of color (any color) in this country could believe that it was their country, too. That women and people of color were among the strong candidates for President and Vice President was a reason for celebration in that government was not a white-men-only club. But Obama has been such a terrible disaster that the symbolism of his election is being overwhelmed by the treachery of his actions.

Hope and Change? A punchline rather than a promise. The only hope is that there will be change left in your pocket after Obama's administration fines and taxes you into poverty. Transparency? Only if you can see through walls. Obama was a storefront candidate manufactured by the Machine and, as Harry Reid said, was not "too Negro" in appearance or dialect to scare off voters.

"There is another scandal involving the Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. He referred to Barack Obama as ‘light-skinned’ with ‘no Negro dialect’. The comment was made in connection with Reid being excited at the prospect of the democratic party running a Black man for President. He apparently thought only ‘light-skinned’ men with ‘no Negro dialect’ could get White people to vote for him. I think he managed to insult the entire Black and White races in the United States. Sometimes we get a glimpse over the wall and see a Senator like Ben Nelson getting a brazen payoff for his vote on Obamacare, or the inept-to-the-point-of-criminality sequence of events that led to the underwear bomber's parade through airport security or the Christmas sessions to ram Obamacare down our throats whether we want it or not. We see that a terrorist can become a high ranking officer and then gun down innocents on Obama's watch. We see that, to paraphrase Senator Brown, our money is going to hire lawyers to defend terrrorists rather than for weapons to blow them up!

Even CNN's Jack Caffery, who used to rake President Bush over the coals repeatedly, has flat out called Barack Hussein Obama a liar. Go see for yourself!

Much has already been made of Obama’s promise of transparency in negotiating health care reform — its become a robust topic of debate between left and right. Cafferty doesn’t demure when he calls it as he sees it, and actually is pretty harsh in calling the president a liar.

Scott Brown won in part because the Massachusetts election (much like earlier ones in New Jersey and Virginia) was a referendum on Barack Obama and his Obamacare and especially his positions on terrorists and security. Both Joe Six Pack and Gerald Grey Goose are against Obamacare and against giving terrorists the rights of US citizens in a standard court of law. Massachusetts was voting against Barack Obama and Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi as much as they were for Brown. Actually, Scott Brown reminds one of a 21st century JFK and quoted the former President during his victory speech. It reminds us that JFK's policies would look Republican today. JFK and Ronald Reagan fit together much better than Barack Obama and any other president since WWII. Even Bill Clinton pragmatically reworked his viewpoint after the 1994 elections. But Obama may be rooted too far to the left to understand the difference between his viewpoint and the ordinary American, let alone the Constitution and the intent of the founding fathers.

What Washington needs, what this whole country needs, is to go watch Frank Capra's classic movie, "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington." The Obama administration and Congress is stuffed full of Jim Taylors and Senator Joseph Caines and has far too few Jefferson Smiths!

Holy Mackerel! This is a great film.
James Stewart plays the role of Jefferson Smith, a naive and hopeful man who, by the spineless governor of his state, is appointed to fill a vacancy in the US Senate. Unfortunately he collides with political corruption and gets dragged through the mud in the press.





Mr. Smith is the head of the Boy Rangers, and sees now his chance to start a national boy's camp and comes up with a legislation to authorize a federal government loan to buy a piece of land for that business. The loan will then be paid for by the contributions of the boy's camp's members. Donations starts to pour in immediately by mail.

The corrupt government, however, has other plans for that particular piece of land, and tries to make Smith their ally. When he still wants to go through with his plans (with the help of Clarissa Saunders, played by the adorable Jean Arthur) the government instead tries to smear the name of Mr. Smith. They ridicule him in the newspapers and come up with lies about his intentions of the boy's camp to get him out of the Congress.

Claude Rains plays Senator Joseph Paine, an old-time friend of Mr. Smith's father. He is torn between his personal feelings for Mr. Smith, and the will of his political boss Jim Taylor (Edward Arnold), who helped him to be successful in politics, and quickly could make him powerless. You can almost not recognize Rains by appearance in this role, and the only different thing is that his hair is white and he's got spectacles on his nose.




As the beautiful daughter of Joseph Paine, Susan, Astrid Allwyn steals the two scenes she appears in. The first of those, were she meets Mr. Smith and "turns the glamour" on him, making him so nervous that he drops his hat about three times, is very amusing.

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington caused a lot of angry feelings around the country by Washington insiders, who thought they were pictured in a false and negative way. One of the real Senators even walked out from the screening he attended in disgust. But on the opposite side the film was rejected by fascists, nazists and communists in Europe for showing that democracy can work.

Director Frank Capra got anyhow letters years afterwards by people being inspired by the film to go into politics.


The at first cynical Saunders is inspired by Mr. Smith's enthusiasm and energy, and soon finds herself falling for him.
